Hong Kong’s heatwave continues to scorch, and swimming pools offer an effective means of relief. There are 44 public swimming pools (over half offering children’s facilities and many offering water slides and other fun activities) throughout the city; admission costs just HK$17 on weekdays and 19 on weekends/public holidays with discounts available for seniors/students/those under 3.

If you plan on visiting, be sure to visit each pool’s website for opening hours as they can vary significantly. In addition, many pools close periodically for maintenance or repairs or even just for cleaning services.

Some pools feature lockers, but you will require coins in order to use one. Bring along $10 bills instead if possible or leave your belongings with lifeguards if you prefer not risking their loss.

Ma On Shan offers the ultimate water experience with breathtaking views of Tolo Harbour from its main pool, four waterslides – including two of the fastest ones in Hong Kong, training and teaching pools, round stepping and toddler pools filled with whimsical water installations like mushroom and tree-shaped fountains, training and teaching pools, training and teaching pools as well as four waterslides (two of them amongst fastest).
