The 19th Annual Hong Kong Arts Development Awards

Established in 1988, the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards is an annual ceremony to honour notable artists and arts organisations that have made substantial contributions to Hong Kong’s artistic scene. Award categories are designed to foster participation by beginners as well as veterans in arts practice while rewarding them for their efforts – with nominations now open for nominations to take part. The 19th Arts Development Awards is now accepting submissions.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club will raise Group 2 race purses by 5.9% (up to HK$4.25m). Furthermore, classes 3 through 5 prizes will also see increases of 3.4% as part of their commitment to promote racing’s growth within Hong Kong. These increases reflect their dedication in further fostering racing’s development within their city.

Two of Hong Kong’s premier science awards – BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize and Hang Lung Mathematics Awards – marked their 10th anniversaries this year. The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize upholds its mission of attracting top science talent, nurturing forward-looking scientists, and turning Hong Kong into a hub for scientific research and innovation.

This year’s BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Awards celebrate five fields of research: Artificial Intelligence & Robotics; Life & Health; New Materials & New Energy; Advanced Manufacturing; FinTech. These prestigious awards honor outstanding scientists residing in Hong Kong or research-related institutions set up by Hong Kong higher education institutions located within Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area who have demonstrated remarkable contributions in terms of scientific research, its application or commercialization.

“The HK Magazine Show” team talks with Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, 2023 BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize recipient and winner of The Hong Kong Magazine Show’s popular weekly news and entertainment programme about his journey into academia and research. Together they explore the importance of following your passion, how to develop scientific mindset, and the necessity of being open-minded.

Kong Wai-ho was nominated this year for the Nobel Peace Prize due to her tireless efforts in protecting democracy and fighting for human rights, over 25 years. Her outstanding commitment has resulted in an extraordinary career spanning more than 25 years.

As part of its celebration of the Year of the Snake, Hong Kong Heritage Museum will present an exhibition that explores Chinese zodiac animals through art – with particular attention paid to snakes as symbolic creatures in Chinese mythology. Furthermore, various activities will also take place to mark this special event.
