HK Prize is an international prize honoring scientific research in biotechnology, chemistry and molecular biology. Awarded annually to young scientists who are Fellows of Hong Kong Academy of Medicine who have undertaken outstanding work that advances humanity on an international scale.
The winner will take home approximately two-thirds of the total prize pool for this event; runners-up will collect $220,000. Moreover, this tournament’s victor will qualify for inclusion in the 2024 Asian Tour season including participation at Melbourne HSBC Champions Tournament which boasts over $3 Million as prize pool.
As well as a main prize, the competition offers several smaller awards that include cash awards and trophies. These prizes are awarded by a jury to outstanding research papers or presentations judged to be outstanding within their fields, published in recognized journals at time of submission; winners will be notified via email prior to closing date of competition.
This year, five researchers from different nations received the Shaw Prize. Four were in astronomy and life science & medicine fields while another earned it for mathematical sciences.
All submissions will be evaluated and peer-reviewed by a committee, using an independent, objective, and rigorous selection process. No organization or individual may exert undue influence over this selection process; all submissions should adhere to the Basic Law while showing high social morality and professional ethics.
The HK Prize prize money is divided among three categories, each with their own criteria: an astronomy prize, life science and medicine prize and mathematics prize. Each has different standards; for instance, the astronomy prize recognizes scientists who make ground-breaking discoveries such as millisecond pulsars, gamma-ray bursts or supernovae; additionally it may recognize extrasolar planet research projects.
